January 17, 2013

Another fantastic day in 5th grade!  As we continue our media unit, we explored when and how writers share their opinions through media today.  Be sure to notice those opinions in newspapers, magazines, blogs, radios, and T.V.!  Check out the debate section in Time for Kids here!
Also, you may have noticed some links added to the side--those are RSS Feeds to some interesting sites, including TIME.com's picture of the week, NASA's picture of the day, and science news for kids.  Enjoy!!

Homework:
1) Math (7-4): p. 167 odds, p. 168 odds.  Remember that during this unit, you must show all your work!  Otherwise, I have to assume you're using a calculator and give you a zero!  Also, redo quizzes/tests!  Remember that the term ends Friday, Jan. 18th, and all missing work/redo's from this term must be turned in by then!
2) Read 20 minutes (and every single day if your reading log grade is a little low to bring that up!)
3) Missing work!  The term ends Friday, January 18th, and everything must be in by then!
4) Permission Slip: Be sure to turn in the permission slip to our field trip to Salt Lake (Jan. 31st to The Leonardo & Capitol), and a $5 donation if possible!

Items of Business:
*Class Store: If you have any extra soda, candy, trinkets, jewelry, or toys that you would like to donate to class store, please send it with your child! We would like to do one more often to serve as a motivator for positive behavior!
*We would always welcome donations of gerbil food for our class pets!

Upcoming Events:
*Jan. 18: End of term 2
*Jan. 21: Martin Luther King Jr. Day: No school
*Jan. 22: Boxtops due
*Jan. 25: Boxtops dress down
*Jan. 25: Report cards go home
