What a great start to the week!  We started a new writing and reading workshop today, and I am amazed at how creative everyone is!  Have a great week!  (P.S., I shared an interesting breakdown of some statistics in our world this morning, and several students wanted to look at again on our blog, so check it out at the bottom of this post!)

Homework: 

1) Math (1-10): p. 31 all, p. 32 evens.  Also, remember to redo low-scoring math quizzes (I give full points back for them if you show your work!) 

2) Spelling due Wednesday.  You need to write all your words down sorted into their correct categories on a piece of paper.

3) Read 20 minutes and get it signed--remember that every day read must be signed!!

Understanding the diversity that makes up our world

If there were only 100 people on Earth, the human population would look like the following:

1. 57 Asians, 21 Europeans, 14 from the Western Hemisphere (North and South), and 8 Africans
2. 51 females and 49 males and 30 Christians and 70 with other religious beliefs
3. 80 would live in sub-standard housing and 30 would have access to safe drinking water
4. 70 would be unable to read and 50 would suffer from malnutrition
5. One would be near death, one would be near birth
6. 17 people would speak Mandarin Chinese, 9 would speak English, 8 would speak Hindi/Urdu, 6 would speak Spanish, 6 would speak Russian, 4 would speak Arabic, and the rest would speak a multitude of other languages
7. 20 would have 75% of the income; another 20 would have only 2% of the income
8. One would have a college education and no one would own a computer
